Belgin Aksoy prepares to mark 15 years of Global Wellness Day on Saturday 13 June
Global Wellness Day (GWD) will mark its 15th anniversary on Saturday 13 June 2026, with the theme: #JoyMagenta – a celebration of the healing qualities of simple gestures and activities that spark joy.
Founded in 2012 by Belgin Aksoy in Turkey, GWD is a non-profit movement dedicated to promoting the power of wellness. Each year, GWD inspires people worldwide through free health and wellness activities, hosted and supported by leading spa and hospitality brands and suppliers.
Belgin Aksoy told Spa Business: “Over the past 15 years, Global Wellness Day has encouraged millions of people to reconnect with nature, with movement, with mindfulness and with one another. But this year, we felt the world needed something even more fundamental: joy.
“We are living in a time where people are emotionally exhausted, overstimulated and constantly under pressure to perform. Somewhere along the way, joy became something postponed for ‘someday’ rather than something we actively protect in our daily lives. That is why we chose #JoyMagenta as this year’s theme to remind people that joy is not superficial, selfish or secondary to wellness; it is wellness.
“This year, across more than 170 countries, Global Wellness Day celebrations will focus on creating meaningful moments of gratitude, creativity, connection, movement, music, nature, laughter and human togetherness. From sunrise yoga sessions and community walks to sound healing, art workshops, beach gatherings, wellness talks, dancing, mindful meals and intergenerational activities, the goal is not perfection, it is helping people rediscover simple moments that make life feel lighter, warmer and more alive.”
