Royal Liverpool set to host 2014 Open
Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, Merseyside, has been awarded the right to stage the 2014 Open Championship by the the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A).
It will be the first time since 2006 the venue has hosted the event, which is estimated to boost the local economy by £70m each time it is held in north west England.
R&A director of championships David Hill said: "In 2006, Hoylake showcased links golf at its best and players, spectators and officials were united in their praise for the course, and for the venue as a whole."
The R&A's decision follows the announcement that the Hoylake course is to host the 2012 Ricoh Women's British Open for the first time in its history.
